A conversation with Sunnie Townsend (they/them) about queerness, psychedelics, and creating healing spaces where people actually feel seen and supported. Sunnie talks about how queer identity shapes our relationships to psychedelics and community, and why inclusive, affirming spaces for LGBTQI+ people really matter in the psychedelic world.

Sunnie Townsend (they/them) is a queer care specialist, educator, and writer supporting LGBTQIA+ folks navigating trauma. Grounded in abolitionist, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive care, their work centers on dismantling barriers that prevent Queer and Trans people from accessing affirming healing. Through Psilocythem and Queer Care Connections, Sunnie brings an anti-oppressive lens to frameworks including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Polyvagal Theory, attachment trauma, and systemic abuse, with care rooted in consent, accessibility, and lived experience.
With over 15 years of experience in queer community care and 10+ years of professional practice, Sunnie holds an M.A. from The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology in Theology & Culture with a focus on trauma. They are a Certified Trauma of Money Facilitator and Faculty member, trained in IFS Sex & Sexuality, and their written works can be found here. where they explore the intersections of queerness, trauma, money, and power. Sunnie identifies as A-binary, gender variant, and sexually queer. Sunnie is located in Seattle and works with folx in the Pacific Northwest and in regions where queer affirming care is scarce, including Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, North Carolina, and Michigan, carrying care across borders where it is most needed.
